Welcome to Simba Safari Blog!

My name is Dora, I am a wife, a mother, a sister and a friend. I was born in Nairobi, Kenya with my roots being in Kisumu which is in the Western part of Kenya.
My parents named me after my maternal grandmother who was well know in her village for her cooking and hospitality. Well, it appears that I inherited the love for cooking from her.
Growing up I was taught that food was an integral part of our life, whether we were happy or sad.I  love life, love food, love to cook and then enjoy the food.  My love for food has lead me to commercial cooking as an outside caterer and also a promoter of street food.

Clanging pans, hissing kettle, drumming pots …….great harmony resulting in tantalizing food.

I am the proud owner/operator of Simba Safari Grill, a catering company that also runs a food truck serving authentic African Cuisine in local Manitoba Festivals. I would love to share some of my delicious recipes  and life experiences  with you. I love everything about food, especially experimenting with different ingredients and then eating the delicious results!

I love to travel too, as with that comes  the opportunity to enjoy different types of food.
Come along on this journey as I take our basic African recipes and ingredients and  transform them to different kinds of foods for people from all walks of life.

Simba Safari Grill was born out of a desire to expand the circle of those who like my cooking. Previously I would cook to a limited group of people, largely family and social acquaintances. Cooking is my therapy, I find peace in the kitchen, experimenting with different recipes gives me a lot of satisfaction. Indeed the clanging of pots and pans, the hissing sound of steaming food and the drumming of boiling water and soup is an orchestra to behold and the resultant aroma and tasty result is a great reward.
